Gordie Sampson talks about what happens when you write a number 1 hit for Luke Bryan
What happens when you write a number 1 song for a mega country star like Luke Bryan? Well, the man who penned Knockin’ Boots, Gordie Sampson says “there’s a lot of bourbon and whiskey involved.” Sampson, who celebrated his birthday on Thursday was guest recently on Maritime Centre Stage and told me the tradition in Nashville is to throw a number 1 party for the songwriter when a single goes to number 1. Gordie also shared the inside story on Tenille Townes’ hit Jersey On The Wall. The song was inspired by Tenille’s visit to a highschool in New Brunswick. It’s since earned Gordie, Tenille and their co-writer Tina Parol a CCMA nomination for songwriters of the year.
