Peter Rabbit movie sparks boycott, Sony appology

Sony has officially apologized for a scene in the Peter Rabbit movie that had some people calling for a boycott.  The scene in question, shows Peter & his friends throwing blackberries at a character whom they know has an allergy to blackberries.  The character at one point is forced to use an Epi-Pen.

To be fair, that same character can also be seen chasing the rabbits around his garden with a garden hoe.

Advocate groups initially called for boycotts of the movie stating that the scene made light of allergies and called the scene an example of bullying.  Sony Pictures has since issued an appology.  Saying “Food allergies are a serious issue.  Our film should not have made light of Peter Rabbit’s archnemesis, Mr. McGregor, being allergic to blackerries, even in a cartoonish, slapstick way.”

What do you think?  Has this been an over-reaction or was Sony out of line for including the black berry scene?  Leave a comment below.
