City Announces Free Outdoor Movies
The City of Charlottetown is excited to announce the return of outdoor movie screenings to the capital city in 2021. Presented by the City in partnership with Confederation Centre of the Arts, Cinema Under the Stars will feature five nights of free, family-friendly movies.
Movie screenings will run on the evenings of Monday, August 30 to Friday, September 3 and will be shown on a large LED screen at the Confederation Centre of the Arts outdoor amphitheatre.
“School may be starting up again soon, but that doesn’t mean that the summer fun has to come to an end,” said Mayor Philip Brown. “The modified format of Cinema Under the Stars allows for residents to get out and safely enjoy this great free programming. We hope you make the most of this opportunity to enjoy a film outdoors with family and friends at the heart of our beautiful city.”
The schedule of screenings is as follows:
- Monday, August 30 – 6:45 p.m. Raya and the Last Dragon (PG)
- Tuesday, August 31 – 8:00 p.m. Little Women (PG)
- Wednesday, September 1 – 8:00 p.m. Knives Out (PG-13)
- Thursday, September 2 – 8:00 p.m. Wonder Woman 1984 (PG-13)
- Friday, September 3 – 6:45 p.m. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (PG)
“Movies have the power to bring us closer as a community, which is vitally important during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic,” said Councillor Julie McCabe, chair of the City’s Economic Development, Tourism, and Event Management Committee. “I want to thank our Tourism and Event Management team as well as Confederation Centre of the Arts for their determination in creating safe, late summer events for residents to enjoy together.”
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, capacity is limited for each movie screening and a free ticket is required to attend. A limited number of tickets can be pre-reserved online or in person at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Box Office beginning today at Noon; a maximum of six tickets per person will be available. Walk-up tickets will also be available nightly. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and pillows, and to dress in layers as the weather forecast dictates. A hand sanitizing station and access to washrooms will be available and social distancing protocols will be in place.
Given the free nature of the event and limited attendee capacities, pre-reserved tickets that are unable to be utilized should be returned to the Confederation Centre Box Office in a timely manner so they may be redistributed to another interested party.
