Gold Cup Parade Neighbourhood Tour Happening Friday Morning
The Gold Cup Parade Committee would like to remind the public of the Gold Cup Parade Neighbourhood Tour happening at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 20.
In lieu of the traditional Parade, two smaller, abbreviated versions of the parade will travel through neighbourhoods of Charlottetown, giving spectators a chance to celebrate the traditions of the Gold Cup Parade in a safe manner. The Neighbourhood Tour will travel through Beach Grove, Brighton, City Center, Sherwood, Parkdale, and Downtown Charlottetown. Each route will include entries that would normally make up the parade lineup each year, including a Police vehicle, Gold Cup Ambassadors, a band float, children’s entertainment, a firetruck, and a community float.
During the Neighbourhood Tour, motorists are reminded that they may encounter minor delays if travelling behind the parade and are asked to use caution as the routes will not be closed to traffic.
Residents should keep their eye on the sky at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning when the two Parade Tours begin. The CP-140 Aurora of the Royal Canadian Air Force will do a flyby, weather-permitting, over Charlottetown to mark the start of the Neighbourhood Tour.
The theme of the Parade this year is PEI Spirit. Islanders are encouraged to pick up a free PEI flag from any Murphy’s Pharmacies, Tim Hortons, or Wendy’s locations across the Island leading up to and on parade day. Islanders can post a photo on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter and tag Gold Cup Parade for a chance to win a VIP Parade Package including four tickets to view the 2022 Gold Cup Parade from the VIP Viewing Stand, a one-night stay at Hampton Inn & Suites Charlottetown and a restaurant gift card.
Those waiting for the Neighbourhood Tour to pass by can follow the Gold Cup Parade on social media for live location updates from both routes, compliments of Canadian Tracking Solutions.
For those who are not able to watch the Neighbourhood Tour, “Gold Cup Parade, A Look Back” will be broadcasted on Eastlink Community TV with highlights from past Gold Cup Parades at 12:00 p.m. on August 20 and again on August 22.
